Dog itching is very common phenomenon with dog owners. It can be caused by many reasons, from a unnoticed case of fleas to a serious fungal infection and can make both you and your dog very uncomfortable. You should also keep an eye on your pets for excessive licking, chewing, redness of the skin, ears, hair loss, and don’t forget that excessive head shaking can also be a symptom. If you’re willing to keep your dog health and concerned about your dog’s health care, you don’t want your dog itching it day and night.

Although there are a number of reasons, dog itching can simply occur because your dog’s skin is drier than normal. There are simple ways to initially treat your dog, one that includes bathing your dog less, and bathing it with a hydrating dog shampoo. It’s always recommended that you see a vet in such cases, and if he recommends, dog fatty acid supplements and olive oil can be given that are specifically made for dogs with dry skin. You should also keep in mind that some simple things, such as swimming, too much sun on short haired and light colored dogs, can make the scenario worse.

Brushing your dog regularly can release protective oils that encourages the flow of blood and keep the coat vibrant. Keep your dog from toxins, for example, herbicides, pesticides and flea powder. Dogs can also be allergic grasses and particular plants, observe your dog and keep them from getting in contact with such plants.

Mange is another reason for heavy dog itching and is often caused by mites. Take your dog to a vet if you think that’s the problem, hair loss and dry, scab-like marks on the dog’s skin around the eyes, ears, and joints are the basic symptoms. Do note that a skin test and medication is needed to diagnose and treat mange, so see a vet as soon as you can if you’re suspecting it might be mange that’s been causing your dog getting itchy.

Taking good care of a dog means grooming a dog. Grooming a dog, in general, means taking hygienic care of a dog on a daily basis to keep it clean and healthy. It’s very important to be able to properly groom a dog because it helps keep a dog clean and healthy both physically and emotionally as well as preventing various infections that caused by matted hair, periodontal disease caused by uncared for teeth, ear infections from excessive buildup of wax, dirt and bacteria, etc. Grooming is a difficult task since different breed requires different amount of grooming and sometimes requires professional help.

Just like you and me, a dog also needs regular exercises. But the problem is, dogs don’t tend to do it on their own unless you push them to, since a dog brain doesn’t have enough processing power to understand that it’s good for it.

Whether you own a boxer or a shepherd, it’s up to you to start making your dog exercise. Exercising is a very valuable part of dog care, not only does it keep a dog in shape, it also keeps it away from common diseases.

As hard it may sound, exercising your dog is not a hard thing. In fact, it’s fun and also very good for your own health. Exercising your dog means exercising yourself, which keeps both you and your dog healthy. But to make it a fun for both of you, a suitable and enjoyable routine and session is a must. For instance, you can start off combining walking, running and fetching games for a 30 minutes as a base routine and then make changes to it according to your dog’s interest and stamina. Some dogs are very active and some dogs are not so active, for the later, splitting up the 30 minute session with two 15-minute session is a very good idea, you can start by walking and light running in the first session and then move onto intense running and fetching in the second session.

Observe your dog, don’t just keep pushing it to do what you like to do, let it be for a while and see which out of those exercises interests it the most. Some dogs don’t like to take long walks. For example, Labrador Retrievers and Poodles really like long walks while hounds are fond of low key walks.

Games are also part of dog exercises, don’t just walk and run with your dog, if exercising gets to your dog’s nerve, give it a rest and spend a day with it playing hide and seek, tug of war. Dogs are naturally fond of finding and holding on to to things, including them in the routine means its more fun to both of you.

It’s also very important that you make your dog work out at least 4 days a week, exercising for 2 hours only on the weekend doesn’t mean that your dog will be healthy. And don’t just start exercising your dog out of the blue, if your loving dog doesn’t have any exercising experience at all, start with a 10 to 15 minute light walks and running and then add more activities as days goes by. Don’t just make it work out just because you wanted to start running again, both of you should have the same ruling power when it comes to exercising.

To start off, dogs are susceptible to about 60 types of disease, and 20 of them can be transmitted to human bodies, which is why you need to pay a great amount of attention to your dog’s health care. It is very important for a dog owner to spend some time regularly on reading materials and books on dog health care. Internet is also a great place to learn how to keep your beloved dog healthy. However, dog health care is so big a domain that you would need to specify a problem to focus to discover the issues you are interested in.

Dogs usually get sick from parasites, viruses, bacteria, protozoa, and fungus. Although these diseases and infections are fatal sometimes, they can be easily recovered from if treated early. Ensure your dog’s good health by protecting it with Vaccinations. One other advantage of vaccinating a dog is that When a mother dog is vaccinated, her puppies also get the same immunity when they drink her milk. But it is recommended that you talk to a dog health care specialist before you inject your dog with any type of vaccination.

The main three dog health care problems, which are the most frequent ones too, are fleas, worms and poisons. If you don’t treat them properly, you may expect some serious problems ahead. However, these are not that hard to deal with.

Fleas and lice are easy to deal with. With the help if many shampoos, collars or special drops, dealing this particular issue has become a piece of cake. Do note that you should not use human shampoo to wash your dog because it may completely degrease the fur and afterwards the dog’s skin would have to secret even more oil to compensate for the deficit. You can purchase various shampoos, Anti-flea sprays, powders, or any other products from any dog health care store. However, it’s recommended that you ask the vet first.

Puppies need to be de-wormed at the age of two or three weeks, with the same procedure repeated at four or six weeks of age. It is highly recommended that you remove all stools and stuff from the garden, keep the lawn cut short and feed the dog properly cooked meat to keep it away from worms.

Anyone owning a dog should also make sure that their dog stays away from any kind of poisonous fluids or chemicals. This can easily be achieved by putting all your nail polish removers and anti-bacterial solutions in a cabinet rather than leaving them in the reach of a dog. Should it swallows any chemical or poisonous fluid, feed it some milk immediately as a first aid before calling in a vet.

It’s always an honor to win a dog’s trust and keep it. As far as a pet is concerned, a dog is one of the most dependable animal on earth, and a successful friendship with a dog last for a lifetime. However, a dog is most likely to require more information that most other pets. Here are some basic dog health care information to guide you take good care of your dog.

The very first thing you should do before you buy dog is learn about the dog itself as much as possible before getting into dog health care. It’s a very good idea to buy a book on the particular breed of the dog you want to buy to learn about dog care in general. Basic day to day dog care is not a big task once you have understood your dog and learn to recognize his signs. But when it comes to a dog’s health care, it requires some special attention.

A dog also needs proper diet to keep itself fit. Feeding it daily doesn’t mean it’s going to be physically top notch. It is a matter of pride to own a healthy and strong dog. But perfect health can be accomplished only with a balanced diet. Feeding your dog the most expensive dog food doesn’t guarantee good nutrition. Consider your dog’s age before you plan a diet, feeding a puppy the same amount of food as an adult dog doesn’t guarantee more calories or strength. Dog food doesn’t simply means food for any dog, an adult dog may need a senior type of food that is easily digested, whereas, a puppy might something easily swallowed. Avoid feeding any highly processed food that has preservatives and additives.

One other important part of general dog care is to ensure enough water consumption. It is highly recommended that you do not substitute water with milk. While milk is good for dogs, excessive amount of milk can cause immediate diarrhea. Buy a good sized water bowl made of porcelain or metal that holds proper amount water for your dog’s breed and size

Bathing your dog clean is also a very important part of dog care, but it should also be kept in mind that bathing it on a too frequent basis can dry out it’s skin and result in skin infections. A very good bet would be bathe it once or twice a month, if your dog gets too dirty everyday, just wash the paws instead of bathing it.

Lastly, do not leave your dog alone for too much time, if your willing to keep it for a long time, make it comfortable with the idea of companionship, it it gets used to being alone all the time, it might just start loving it.
