Dog itching, allergic reactions and other skin problems

Dog itching is very common phenomenon with dog owners. It can be caused by many reasons, from a unnoticed case of fleas to a serious fungal infection and can make both you and your dog very uncomfortable. You should also keep an eye on your pets for excessive licking, chewing, redness of the skin, ears, hair loss, and don’t forget that excessive head shaking can also be a symptom. If you’re willing to keep your dog health and concerned about your dog’s health care, you don’t want your dog itching it day and night.

Although there are a number of reasons, dog itching can simply occur because your dog’s skin is drier than normal. There are simple ways to initially treat your dog, one that includes bathing your dog less, and bathing it with a hydrating dog shampoo. It’s always recommended that you see a vet in such cases, and if he recommends, dog fatty acid supplements and olive oil can be given that are specifically made for dogs with dry skin. You should also keep in mind that some simple things, such as swimming, too much sun on short haired and light colored dogs, can make the scenario worse.

Brushing your dog regularly can release protective oils that encourages the flow of blood and keep the coat vibrant. Keep your dog from toxins, for example, herbicides, pesticides and flea powder. Dogs can also be allergic grasses and particular plants, observe your dog and keep them from getting in contact with such plants.

Mange is another reason for heavy dog itching and is often caused by mites. Take your dog to a vet if you think that’s the problem, hair loss and dry, scab-like marks on the dog’s skin around the eyes, ears, and joints are the basic symptoms. Do note that a skin test and medication is needed to diagnose and treat mange, so see a vet as soon as you can if you’re suspecting it might be mange that’s been causing your dog getting itchy.

Taking good care of a dog means grooming a dog. Grooming a dog, in general, means taking hygienic care of a dog on a daily basis to keep it clean and healthy. It’s very important to be able to properly groom a dog because it helps keep a dog clean and healthy both physically and emotionally as well as preventing various infections that caused by matted hair, periodontal disease caused by uncared for teeth, ear infections from excessive buildup of wax, dirt and bacteria, etc. Grooming is a difficult task since different breed requires different amount of grooming and sometimes requires professional help.
